Slovenian President Nataša Pirc Musar injured in Kastelec tunnel crash
On Friday afternoon, around 17:00 local time, President Nataša Pirc Musar was involved in a traffic collision in the Kastelec tunnel on Slovenia’s coastal highway while returning from a vacation in Croatia to an official event in Komenda. Two police escort vehicles were part of the convoy; the crash injured the president with minor injuries and a second occupant with serious injuries.
Both victims were taken by ambulance to the General Hospital in Izola, where the president was placed under observation and released the same day to continue recovery at home. The tunnel was closed for emergency work and investigation and reopened shortly after 20:00. Slovenian authorities have opened a probe and notified the Specialized State Prosecutor’s Office. The president thanked the emergency services and hospital staff for their swift assistance.
