President Nataša Pirc Musar warns Slovenian coalition on RTVS funding and anti‑corruption reforms

President Nataša Pirc Musar voiced concerns that the new governing coalition plans to amend the law on Slovenia’s public broadcaster (RTVS) and to dissolve the anti‑corruption office (KPK). She warned that switching RTVS financing from a mandatory contribution to state‑budget funding would turn it into a "state television" and that abolishing an institution simply because it is unwelcome is "simply not good." Musar said she will monitor the process and intervene if needed to safeguard the independence of oversight bodies.

The coalition programme, filed in the parliamentary coalition agreement, proposes removing the compulsory RTV contribution, moving to budget financing, and merging the KPK into a new prosecutorial unit called Skok. In the same parliamentary session, Janez Janša was elected mandatar with 51 votes against 36, positioning him to form his fourth and the 16th Slovenian government. Janša announced staff‑reduction talks would begin on Monday and expects the cabinet to be sworn in within two weeks. Musar’s earlier public congratulatory message to Janša after his election has drawn scrutiny, given her prior remarks about foreign influence in the vote and the Black Cube affair.
