President Nawrocki rejects SOP commander nomination
President Karol Nawrocki has rejected the nomination of Colonel Tomasz Jackowicz for the position of Commander of the State Protection Service (SOP). Under current law, the Prime Minister appoints the head of the SOP upon the request of the Minister of the Interior, but only in agreement with the President.
Presidential spokesperson Rafał Leśkiewicz stated that Jackowicz’s candidacy did not receive the necessary presidential agreement. The President’s office indicated that Nawrocki remains open to approving a candidate who can provide a guarantee of professional and stable leadership for the formation responsible for the security of the state’s most important figures.
The decision has sparked intense criticism from the ruling coalition. Minister of the Interior Marcin Kierwiński described the move as “sabotage” and claimed that “chaos and mess is the only program President Nawrocki has for Poland and the Poles.” Government spokesperson Adam Szłapka and intelligence coordinator Tomasz Siemoniak also criticized the President, accusing him of paralyzing the state and undermining essential institutions.
