Romanian President Nicușor Dan signed decrees on 27 July 2026 appointing approximately 180 judges and about 100 prosecutors who passed the capacity exam held between December 2025 and June 2026. The appointments become effective on 1 August 2026, marking the final procedural step before the new magistrates begin work.

The appointed judges will be allocated to courts across the country, including Bucharest (sectors 3, 4, 5, 6), Brașov, Ploiești, Craiova, Iași, Timișoara, Giurgiu, Buzău, Pitești, Sibiu, Constanța, Cluj‑Napoca, Oradea, Botoșani and several other municipalities. New prosecutors will be placed in corresponding prosecutor’s offices in the same cities.

The capacity exam was a mandatory prerequisite for obtaining permanent status as a judge or prosecutor, and the appointment decrees complete the process for the newly qualified magistrates.
