President Nicușor Dan to mediate Romanian budgetary salary law negotiations
Romanian President Nicușor Dan is set to mediate negotiations regarding a new budgetary salary law. A key condition for the President's promulgation of the law is that it must not result in salary decreases for employees in the healthcare and education sectors.
Labor unions have expressed opposition to current proposals, fearing wage reductions. Meanwhile, Minister Dragoș Pîslaru stated that a revised draft is being prepared to facilitate consensus among political leaders from the PSD, PNL, USR, and UDMR parties. The Minister emphasized that if the legislative project is not adopted by the end of the month, Romania risks losing approximately 770 million euros from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR).
Regarding government formation, presidential advisor Eugen Tomac noted that the President is awaiting the establishment of a parliamentary majority to support a future cabinet. Tomac also ruled out the possibility of early elections within the current year.
