President Pellegrini upholds SIS Director's disciplinary sanction
Slovak President Peter Pellegrini has rejected a protest from Prosecutor General Maroš Žilinka, upholding a disciplinary sanction against Pavol Gašpar, the Director of the Slovak Information Service (SIS). The sanction involves a 15 percent salary reduction for one month following a traffic accident in Nitra last year, where Gašpar was found to have exceeded the speed limit.
Žilinka had requested that the sanction be canceled or reduced, arguing that the President's decision was unlawful and failed to properly describe the specific misconduct. In response to the rejection, Žilinka announced he will file a lawsuit in administrative court, claiming the President failed to rectify a breach of law.
President Pellegrini defended the penalty, stating that high-ranking officials must bear a greater level of responsibility than ordinary citizens. He noted that the current sanction only addresses the speeding violation and emphasized that if further illegal actions related to the accident are proven, he will take additional measures. The President also called for a full investigation by the traffic inspectorate and the prosecution to clarify all circumstances of the incident.
