President Peter Pellegrini discusses UN reform in New York

During the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Slovak President Peter Pellegrini met with outgoing UN Secretary-General António Guterres to discuss the necessity of reforming the international institution. Pellegrini suggested that the European Union should identify a strong representative acceptable to both Ukraine and Russia to facilitate peace negotiations regarding the ongoing conflict.

In response to the President's visit, commentator Juraj Hrabko noted that the current global state is one of disorder rather than a functioning world order, claiming the UN is unable to guarantee the enforcement of its own charter.

Domestically, the President has signaled the upcoming dismissal of Environment Minister Tomáš Taraba. Potential political developments include Prime Minister Robert Fico accepting a new nominee from the SNS party, such as State Secretary Filip Kuffa, to lead the ministry.
