President Petr Pavel discusses drought mitigation with experts in Lány
President Petr Pavel and his wife, Eva, hosted a meeting with environmental experts, scientists, foresters, and farmers at Lány Castle to discuss climate change and the drought affecting the Czech Republic.
Pavel emphasized that addressing drought requires a complex set of measures rather than just the construction of new reservoirs. He called for a broad professional debate and urged that environmental protection be integrated with economic prosperity. The President also stressed the importance of using facts, data, and analysis to inform the public, noting that informed citizens are less susceptible to populism.
During the discussion, Pavel made a remark regarding Prime Minister Andrej Babiš, who had previously shared a video thanking the Infant Jesus for bringing rain. Pavel joked that in Brno, the rain was so heavy that people were asking Babiš to stop praying.
