Petr Pavel to miss Czech municipal elections due to private trip

Czech President Petr Pavel will miss the upcoming municipal elections in Černouček due to a scheduling error involving a private trip abroad. Prague Castle confirmed that the President left the country on October 2 for an undisclosed destination outside the European Union and will not return to his official duties until October 19.

The Presidential Office expressed regret over the planning mistake. While the specific destination was not disclosed due to the private nature of the trip, social media posts from a racing driver suggested the President was visiting the Rallye du Maroc in Morocco.

Political commentators and analysts have noted the absence is unusual for a head of state, as leaders traditionally use voting to encourage civic participation. While not a constitutional crisis, some experts described the decision as a significant political error regarding the symbolic role of the presidency.
