President Prabowo pushes overhaul of Indonesia's school textbooks

President Prabowo Subianto ordered a comprehensive update of Indonesia's national school textbooks after inspecting materials in several schools. He noted problems such as fragile paper, damaged pages and small print that hinder reading for primary‑school children.

Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya said the review will compare Indonesian textbooks with those of neighboring countries to identify improvements. Minister of State Secretariat Prasetyo Hadi added that the reform will also strengthen national character, boost science and technology education, and raise foreign‑language proficiency, especially English, while improving the physical quality of the books.
