President Prabowo Subianto distributes 1,098 cattle for Idul Adha across Indonesia

President Prabowo Subianto ordered the distribution of 1,098 premium cattle to all 38 provinces, 514 regencies and cities for the Idul Adha celebration. The animals, weighing between 800 kg and 1.3 ton, will be given to government bodies, educational institutes, pesantrens, and community and religious leaders.

The Institute for Development of Economics and Finance (Indef) estimated the total value of sacrifice transactions for the holiday at Rp26.89 trillion, involving about 1.59 million animals nationwide. It warned of a sharp regional imbalance, with an extreme surplus of slaughter value in Java amounting to around Rp21.42 trillion, while Papua and Maluku face severe deficits.

The distribution aims to provide meat for roughly 2.5 days of daily protein needs for Indonesia’s population, though analysts note the uneven geographic distribution could widen social disparities.
