President Prabowo Subianto’s Approval Falls Over Economy, Law and Communication Issues

A recent Saiful Mujani Research and Consulting (SMRC) poll shows public satisfaction with President Prabowo Subianto slipping to 51.1% in July 2026, down from 81.2% in November 2025. Analysts attribute the decline to three main problem areas.

Senior researcher Efriza of the Citra Institute said the economy remains the dominant factor, noting that high staple‑food prices, stagnant job creation and weak purchasing power keep everyday Indonesians dissatisfied. Political communication expert Hendri Satrio added that weak coordination within the administration and inconsistent messaging from ministers have further eroded trust. Legal controversies, such as the case involving Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes Febrie Adriansyah, have also damaged public confidence. Optimism that briefly rose after the appointment of Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has not translated into tangible economic breakthroughs, reinforcing the perception that promises remain unfulfilled.
