President Prabowo’s approval falls to 51% as surveys spark political calls for action
A Saiful Mujani Research and Consulting (SMRC) poll conducted from 5 – 19 July 2026 recorded public satisfaction with President Prabowo Subianto at 51.1 percent, down from 81.2 percent in November 2025. The survey’s margin of error was about 3.7 percent and the breakdown showed 4.8 percent very satisfied, 46.3 percent fairly satisfied, 35 percent less satisfied, 11.9 percent not satisfied and 2.1 percent no answer.
In contrast, an Indonesia Development Monitoring (IDM) poll for the first half of 2026 reported an 81.5 percent satisfaction rating for the president, citing strong public approval of law‑enforcement actions, economic stability and priority programmes.
Political figures responded to the divergent results. Anas Urbaningrum urged the president to focus on delivering campaign promises and streamline the cabinet to improve public trust. Government communications chief Muhammad Qodari said the surveys would be used to evaluate policies but called for more detailed variables to pinpoint causes of the decline. Gerindra party deputy chair Sufmi Dasco announced plans to study both the SMRC and Indikator Politik surveys to inform the administration’s response.
