President Ramaphosa arrives in Egypt for African Union meeting
President Cyril Ramaphosa has arrived in Egypt to participate in the 8th African Union Mid-Year Coordination Meeting (MYCM) in El-Alamein. Representing the Southern African Development Community (SADC) as its Chairperson, Ramaphosa will join other Heads of State, regional economic community chairpersons, and development partners such as the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa and the African Development Bank.
The meeting focuses on advancing continental integration as part of the Agenda 2063 framework. Key agenda items include assessing the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement, reviewing the role of AUDA-NEPAD in regional integration, and evaluating the division of labor between the African Union, regional mechanisms, and member states.
Additionally, leaders will discuss infrastructure improvements regarding water and sanitation, as well as African Union efforts to prevent and address continental conflicts through enhanced early warning mechanisms. The summit also provides a platform for bilateral discussions on mutual African interests.
