President Ruto calls for KDF modernization amid new technological threats

President William Ruto has called for the modernization of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) to address emerging technological threats. During a passing-out parade, Ruto emphasized that future soldiers must be technologically literate and intellectually prepared to counter modern adversaries, including drone warfare, artificial intelligence, and cyberattacks on critical infrastructure and digital systems.

In addition to addressing military capabilities, Ruto highlighted the constitutional mandate of the KDF to defend sovereignty, support authorities during disasters, and restore peace. He stressed the importance of exercising lawful authority and sound judgment under pressure.

Parallel to these strategic shifts, President Ruto has implemented heightened security measures. Following recent security concerns and changes in leadership within the Presidential Escort Unit, the President arrived at the Defence Forces Recruits Training School in Eldoret under heavy guard. The security detail, now commanded by William Sawe, reportedly utilizes a weekly rotating pattern for first-ring protection officers to maintain vigilance.
