President Ruto criticizes Senator Sifuna over housing levy dispute
President William Ruto has criticized Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna following the senator's disclosure regarding his monthly contributions to the Affordable Housing Programme levy. Sifuna stated that he pays an average of Ksh 24,000 per month toward the levy, arguing that these deductions grant him the standing to question how the funds are utilized by the executive.
President Ruto responded by questioning Sifuna's motives for wanting to abolish the program, noting that it has created jobs for approximately one million Kenyans. Ruto also pointed out that Sifuna's salary is funded by the same taxpayers who benefit from the housing initiative. The President suggested that if the levy deduction is Ksh 24,000, the senator's gross salary would logically exceed Ksh 1 million. According to the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC), a Kenyan senator earns a gross monthly salary of Ksh 739,600.
