President Ruto denies claims of banning election results livestreaming

President William Ruto has dismissed allegations that the government or legislature intends to ban the livestreaming of election results. Speaking during a church service in Mwingi, Kitui County, Ruto characterized the claims as “useless propaganda” used by opposition leaders to mislead the youth.

The National Assembly has also refuted these reports, stating that recent legislative amendments did not remove the requirement for the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to establish a mechanism for real-time transmission of results. Officials confirmed that Section 39(1G) of the Elections Act remains intact, ensuring the constitutional right to receive election outcomes instantly ahead of the 2027 polls.

Additionally, President Ruto addressed opposition to the sale of 25 percent of Kenya Pipeline shares to Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote. He defended the transaction and criticized opponents of the deal, labeling them as individuals attempting to extort investors.
