President Ruto directs police to target sponsors of political violence

President William Ruto presided over a graduation parade for over 6,000 police recruits at the National Police College in Kiganjo, Nyeri County. During the event, the President issued a stern directive to the National Police Service to identify and prosecute individuals who finance, organize, or incite political violence, warning that hired gangs and private militias will not be tolerated ahead of the 2027 General Election.

As part of broader police reforms, Ruto unveiled a new police uniform, replacing the navy-blue design introduced in 2018 following feedback from officers regarding its suitability. The President also addressed officer welfare, noting that a recent three-phase salary review increased the entry-level basic pay for constables from KSh 21,640 to KSh 29,360. He indicated that the government would continue working with the Salaries and Remuneration Commission to ensure pay remains commensurate with the risks faced by officers.

Additionally, the administration broke ground for new training facilities at the college, a project supported by the United States Government and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime. The ceremony was attended by high-ranking officials, including Director of Criminal Investigations Mohamed Amin.
