President Ruto pledges funding for Kenyan hospitals and university
President William Ruto has announced several major infrastructure funding pledges in Kenya, focusing on healthcare and education. In Kakamega County, the President pledged KSh100 million to begin construction of a new university in Likuyani following a 50-acre land donation. He also committed KSh10 million to Matunda Day School and announced that Kakamega Referral Hospital will be gazetted as a Level Six facility in November 2026. To support this upgrade, KSh1 billion has been secured to complete the hospital's construction, with the national government set to assume operational funding.
In Uasin Gishu County, President Ruto pledged KSh500 million to complete and equip the Ziwa Level V Hospital in Soy Constituency. The 400-bed facility is intended to serve as a key referral center for the North Rift region, featuring five operating theatres, 12 ICU beds, and 12 HDU beds. The project aims to decentralize specialized medical services and reduce the patient load on Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital.
