President Ruto rejects landlord demands for land compensation

President William Ruto has declared that his administration will not succumb to demands from absentee landlords seeking billions of shillings in compensation for land designated for squatter resettlement at the Coast.

Speaking at the Mama Ngina Waterfront Grounds in Mombasa County, where he issued 5,000 title deeds to residents of the Dongo Kundu, Waitiki, Mwakirunge, Mikindani, and Mafisini settlement schemes, Ruto warned against attempts to use these titles to evict residents. He criticized certain landlords for attempting to blackmail the government and questioned the legality of how some titles were originally acquired.

The President emphasized that the state will support squatters and prevent evictions from lands intended to resolve historical land injustices.
