President Ruto sets completion deadline for Enziu Bridge in Kitui

President William Ruto inspected the nearly completed KSh670 million Enziu Bridge in Mwingi Central, Kitui County, on October 25. He established a completion deadline of December 10, 2026, for the project.

The bridge spans the Enziu River, connecting Mwingi Central to Mwingi East. It is intended to replace a hazardous river crossing known as the ‘Killer Enziu Bridge,’ which has been the site of numerous fatal accidents during heavy rains. Notable tragedies include a 2021 incident where a bus was swept away by floodwaters, killing 32 people, and several accidents in 2018.

Beyond improving safety, the project is expected to provide year-round connectivity for residents, improving access to schools, hospitals, and markets. The bridge is also anticipated to boost local trade by allowing farmers and traders to transport agricultural produce more reliably during the rainy season.
