National Bank of North Macedonia celebrates 80 years of central banking
The National Bank of North Macedonia held a ceremony at the National Bank Museum to commemorate its 80th anniversary of central banking operations. The event featured speeches from President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova and Governor Trajko Slaveski, alongside other high-ranking officials including Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski and Speaker of the Assembly Afrim Gashi.
President Siljanovska-Davkova emphasized that monetary and financial stability are public goods that benefit all of society. She noted that the bank’s independence, credibility, and accountability are essential for protecting the long-term public interest and ensuring price stability, which directly impacts citizens' living standards and family budgets.
The ceremony also included a documentary film detailing the bank’s eight decades of development. Governor Slaveski highlighted that trust, built through clear decisions and commitment to the public interest, remains the foundation of the institution’s success.
Separately, a former vice governor of the People's Bank raised concerns regarding the anniversary celebrations, alleging that the Albanian language was excluded from official programs, invitations, and promotional materials, marking a departure from previous years where multilingualism was observed.
