President Siljanovska-Davkova meets with United Macedonians in Canada

President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova met with representatives of the United Macedonians in Canada, including President Risto Durlovski and member Dushko Jankov, to discuss the role of the diaspora in North Macedonia.

The meeting focused on the diaspora's involvement in economic, political, educational, scientific, and cultural relations with their homeland. The President briefed the representatives on the adopted National Strategy for the Diaspora, aimed at facilitating integration into Macedonian public life, and discussed the formation of a Diaspora Council within her cabinet. The representatives were invited to nominate a representative for this council.

Representatives expressed interest in participating in parliamentary and presidential elections, improving communication with the Migration Agency, and having an institutional role in decision-making processes, such as being consulted on the nomination of ambassadors and consuls in Canada. They also noted that digitalization and artificial intelligence are increasing interest among younger generations in connecting with their ancestral homeland.
