President Siljanovska-Davkova opens pensioner sports games in Ohrid
President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova opened the 30th Republic Pensioner Sports Competitions in Ohrid, an event marking the 80th anniversary of pensioner organization in North Macedonia and celebrating National Pensioners' Day.
During her address, the President emphasized that retirement represents a new life cycle characterized by wisdom and experience rather than the end of an active life. She advocated for the active involvement of senior citizens in the creation of policies and laws that directly affect them, particularly in the context of an aging population. Siljanovska-Davkova referenced the Japanese concept of ‘ikigai’ to encourage participants to remain purposeful and active.
The competition features 312 participants representing 41 associations. Ohrid Mayor Kiril Pecakov also addressed the attendees, highlighting the importance of the games as a platform for social connection and vitality. Other speakers included Stanka Trajkova, President of the Union of Associations of Pensioners of Macedonia, and Zdenka Jan, President of the Association of Pensioner Societies of Slovenia.
