GranMorgu project advances in Suriname with US$ 6 billion invested

The GranMorgu offshore oil and gas project in Suriname is advancing toward its 2028 production target. TotalEnergies CEO Patrick Pouyanné recently visited the country, noting that approximately 50 percent of the project is already realized, with US$ 6 billion of the estimated US$ 12 billion total investment already spent.

During a visit to the Kuldipsingh Port Facilities, Surinamese President Jennifer Simons observed large-scale equipment arriving for the project. She emphasized that while the project is gaining momentum, the nation must proactively invest in infrastructure, education, and vocational training to ensure the oil sector translates into widespread prosperity and local expertise.

Currently, over 100 Surinamese companies are providing goods and services to the project. Employment is expected to grow, with more than 600 local roles anticipated by the end of 2026 and a total of 6,000 direct and indirect jobs expected once the project is fully developed. TotalEnergies also plans new exploration campaigns in Block 58 for 2027 and 2028.
