President Jennifer Simons distributes school supplies in Nickerie

President Jennifer Simons distributed school supply packages to students in Nieuw-Nickerie to assist parents with the costs of the upcoming school year. The initiative, held under the theme ‘The future begins at school; together we build for tomorrow’, was made possible through support from the private sector.

During the event, Simons addressed the state of the national education system, noting that the government is working on repairing school buildings and improving systemic efficiency through consultations with teachers. She acknowledged the challenges the government faces in ensuring access to quality education and nutrition for all children, emphasizing the importance of solidarity and private sector cooperation.

In addition to the school bags, students with high academic marks received extra gifts to encourage continued learning. National Assembly Chairman Ashwin Adhin also attended, describing the support for students as an investment in the future.
