President Steinmeier hosts citizens' festival in Bonn

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier is hosting a citizens' festival (Bürgerfest) at Villa Hammerschmidt in Bonn to honor approximately 2,500 volunteers from across Germany. The event serves as a recognition of the millions of people engaged in voluntary work who contribute to social cohesion and democracy.

This year, the festival is being held in Bonn because the President's primary official residence in Berlin, Schloss Bellevue, is undergoing renovations. The festivities include an open house on Saturday at Villa Hammerschmidt and the former Chancellery, which currently houses the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.

Local initiatives from Bonn and projects from the United Nations regarding sustainability will be featured. Due to the event, Adenauerallee will be closed, affecting local transit and bus routes.
