The armies of Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia have commenced a joint civil defense exercise in 2026 at Brigade 249 of the Corps of Engineers. The exercise, themed “Civil Defence Forces of the Armies of Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia Coordinate to Respond and Mitigate the Consequences of a Super Typhoon,” aims to improve command capabilities and coordination for disaster relief and natural disaster response.

High-level military leaders attended the event, including Vietnam's Minister of National Defence, General Phan Van Giang; Laos' Minister of National Defence, General Khamlieng Outhakaisone; and Cambodia's Minister of Defence, General Tea Seiha. Participating units include combat engineers, chemical defense troops, and military medical personnel from all three nations.

In addition to the joint drill, defense cooperation between the nations continues to strengthen. Vietnam and Laos have established a defense cooperation plan for 2027, while Vietnam and Cambodia have also signed a defense cooperation plan to enhance bilateral ties and security.
