President Tasoulas marks 205th anniversary of Tripolitsa liberation

Greek President Konstantinos Tasoulas attended official ceremonies in Tripoli to mark the 205th anniversary of the Capture and Liberation of Tripolitsa, a pivotal event during the Greek War of Independence.

The commemorations, organized by the Municipality of Tripoli, included a religious service at the Metropolitan Church of Saint Basil led by Metropolitan Epifanios of Mantineia and Kynouria. Following the service, President Tasoulas laid wreaths at the Monument to the Hierarchs and Notables and at the statue of revolutionary leader Theodoros Kolokotronis in Areos Square.

In his address, the President emphasized the historical importance of the victory, noting that it consolidated the Greek Revolution and bolstered the morale of the fighters. He quoted Kolokotronis regarding the divine significance of Greece’s freedom and stated that modern Greeks continue to defend the sovereignty and liberty secured during that era.

The anniversary events also featured a parade involving students, cultural associations, scouts, and members of the armed forces and security services. Musical celebrations were scheduled to conclude the festivities, featuring prominent Greek performers.
