President Tinubu honors retired General Olanrewaju on 80th birthday

President Bola Tinubu issued a personal statement celebrating the 80th birthday of Major General Adeniyi Tajudeen Olanrewaju (retired). He described the former army officer and former Minister of Communications as a distinguished patriot and elder statesman, praising his long service to Nigeria.

Tinubu highlighted Olanrewaju’s military career, noting his participation in the Nigerian Civil War, advanced training in the United Kingdom, United States and India, and senior commands such as Commander of the Corps of Artillery, General Officer Commanding the 3rd Armoured Division and membership of the Provisional Ruling Council. He also commended the general’s contribution as Minister of Communications to the early deregulation and modernisation of Nigeria’s telecommunications sector. The president concluded by wishing Olanrewaju continued health and strength.
