President Tinubu urges CNG benefits to reach Nigerian commuters

President Bola Tinubu has expressed concern that the economic benefits of Nigeria’s Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) initiative are primarily benefiting truck owners rather than reaching commuters. During a meeting with the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), led by President Salimon Oladiti, Tinubu urged petroleum transport operators to ensure cost savings trickle down to the general public.

Tinubu addressed the ongoing economic reforms, including the removal of the petrol subsidy, which he described as a necessary step to correct economic distortions and redirect resources toward long-term value. He stated that the government intends to publish details regarding how funds saved from the subsidy removal have been utilized. The President emphasized that these reforms are part of a ‘financial reengineering and reset’ designed to foster sustainable economic growth for workers, families, and businesses.
