Nigeria's Tinubu urges religious leaders to fight terrorism and banditry

President Bola Tinubu has called on religious and spiritual leaders to take an active role in combating terrorism, kidnapping, banditry, and the manipulation of religion to justify violence. Speaking through representatives at various events, including the Grand Maulud of Sheikh Ahmad Al-Tijani in Kano and an international security conference in Abuja, the President emphasized that spiritual leaders must use their moral authority to promote peace, tolerance, and justice.

Tinubu urged religious institutions to strengthen advocacy for peace education, religious literacy, and the moral development of youth to prevent the spread of extremist narratives. He also stressed the importance of national unity, urging Nigerians to maintain cohesion despite ethnic and religious differences. The President noted that the government is committed to addressing security challenges through both domestic efforts and international collaboration to ensure regional and global peace.
