President To Lam discusses nuclear energy cooperation with Canadian firms

During a state visit to Canada, Vietnamese General Secretary and President To Lam met with leaders of several Canadian corporations to discuss strategic cooperation. A key focus of the discussions was the potential for comprehensive partnership in the nuclear energy sector.

In a meeting with Ian L. Edwards, CEO of AtkinsRéalis, President To Lam expressed interest in partners capable of long-term commitment to Vietnam’s nuclear program. He emphasized that safety is the highest, non-negotiable principle. The selection of technology and partners will be based on technological maturity, safety, economic efficiency, financial capacity, and the ability to facilitate technology transfer and human resource development.

AtkinsRéalis proposed cooperation in engineering, nuclear technology, infrastructure, transport, and environmental services. President To Lam requested further clarification on the specific capabilities the group could transfer over the next 10 to 20 years and how Vietnamese enterprises might participate in the nuclear value chain.
