President urges University of Dhaka to reach global academic standards
President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called for improvements to the quality of education at the University of Dhaka to help the institution reach the ranks of the world’s leading universities. During a meeting at Bangabhaban with a university delegation led by Vice-Chancellor ABM Obaidul Islam, the President described the university as a premier institution of higher learning and a central hub for the nation’s politics, history, heritage, and culture.
In addition to discussing academic matters, the President emphasized the importance of strengthening democracy through regular practice, free, fair, and impartial elections. He noted that providing adequate space for political rivals and the opposition is essential for effective democracy.
Vice-Chancellor Islam formally invited the President, in his capacity as Chancellor, to attend the university’s upcoming 54th convocation. The President accepted the invitation and confirmed his attendance.
