President Yotova calls for support for Bulgarians living abroad
President Iliana Yotova has called for increased state responsibility and systemic support to preserve the national identity of Bulgarians living abroad. Speaking at an award ceremony for an essay competition organized by Bulgarian National Radio, the President emphasized that caring for the diaspora is a collective duty of all Bulgarian institutions.
Yotova highlighted the critical role of Bulgarian language, history, and literature in maintaining connections to the homeland. She noted that access to Bulgarian language education is not guaranteed in all countries where the diaspora resides. Consequently, she advocated for greater stability and increased funding for Bulgarian Sunday schools abroad.
Additionally, the President urged the state to send more Bulgarian teachers to regions with significant Bulgarian communities to ensure that younger generations can maintain a meaningful link to their culture and heritage.
