Presidente Prudente celebrates 109 years of history

The city of Presidente Prudente, located in the state of São Paulo, celebrated its 109th anniversary on Monday, September 14. The municipality's history traces back to the founding of Vila Goulart in 1917 by Colonel Francisco de Paula Goulart, followed by the establishment of Vila Marcondes in 1919 near the Sorocabana Railway.

Officially created by state law in 1921 and named in honor of Prudente de Morais, Brazil's first civil president, the city has transitioned from a rural economy to a regional hub for commerce, industry, and services. It serves as a significant center for education and health in Western São Paulo, hosting institutions such as Unesp and Unoeste.

Local landmarks, including the São Sebastião Cathedral founded in 1925 and the bust of Prudente de Morais in Praça da Bandeira, serve as historical markers of the city's architectural and social evolution. According to the 2022 IBGE Census, the city has a population exceeding 225,000 residents.
