Presidents Cup begins at Medina Country Club with U.S. leading World team

The 16th Presidents Cup has commenced at Medina Country Club in Illinois, featuring a biennial match play competition between the United States and World teams. In the opening round of doubles, the World team duo of Hideki Matsuyama and Ryo Hisatsune secured a 3-and-1 victory over American pair Cameron Young and Xander Schauffele.

Despite the win, the United States team holds a 3-2 lead in points after the first day of competition. The tournament format includes foursomes, fourball, and singles matches.

Medina Country Club underwent significant renovations between 2022 and 2023 to modernize the course, including expanding fairway areas and increasing the number of bunkers. For the tournament, the hole sequence has been adjusted to ensure dramatic finishes near the Kadija Lake water hazards.
