Presidio Golf & Concordia Club hazmat incident hospitalizes worker

A hazardous materials emergency occurred at the Presidio Golf & Concordia Club in San Francisco on Friday after a worker accidentally mixed muriatic acid and chlorine while servicing a jacuzzi. The combination created a toxic vapor that resulted in a man in his 20s inhaling the fumes.

The individual was able to transport himself to a local hospital and was reported to be in stable condition. San Francisco Fire Department Hazmat units and fire companies responded to the scene to assess hazards and ensure public safety. Officials advised nearby residents and businesses to avoid the area during the operation.

Fire Captain Mariano Elias noted that the mixture involved approximately 30 to 55 gallons of chemicals. The Department of Public Health worked alongside emergency crews to contain and dispose of the material, a process that took approximately four and a half hours. The scene was cleared following the disposal.
