Prespa hosts ‘The Transparency of Nightingales’ art installation

The art installation ‘The Transparency of Nightingales’ will be held at the Pelkano Agricultural Cooperative building in Prespa from September 1 to September 20, 2026. The work explores the relationship between nature, memory, history, and human presence through various media, including video, sculpture, painting, sound, ceramics, and performance.

A central theme of the installation is the concept of selective viewing rather than total visibility, using nightingales as symbols of memory and voice to connect the landscape with narratives of freedom and silence.

The project incorporates a poetic and political mythologization involving a fictional 1796 meeting between Rigas Feraios and Athanasios Christopoulos near the sanctuary of Agios Achilleios in Lesser Prespa. This encounter serves to bridge democratic ideals with folk education, exploring themes of love, law, and liberty through the intersection of history and imagination.
