Turkey authorizes urgent expropriation for energy projects

Presidential decrees published in the Official Gazette have authorized urgent expropriation for various energy and infrastructure projects across multiple Turkish provinces.

Key energy entities involved in these operations include TEİAŞ, TEDAŞ, BOTAŞ, and TPAO. TEİAŞ will manage expropriations for transformer station sites and several energy transmission line projects, including those in Konya, Diyarbakır, and Midyat. TEDAŞ is tasked with expropriating land for electricity distribution facilities in provinces such as Denizli, Edirne, Kırşehir, Nevşehir, Niğde, Sakarya, Şanlıurfa, and Trabzon.

Additionally, BOTAŞ has been authorized to carry out expropriations for pipeline projects in Adıyaman, İzmir, Manisa, Malatya, and Mersin. TPAO will also conduct activities related to Mediterranean oil and gas exploration. The decrees specify that for certain projects, property will be acquired through full ownership expropriation, while for others, such as safety zones for transmission lines, easement rights (irtifak hakkı) will be established to restrict certain land uses.
