Press freedom and civil rights concerns reported in Argentina, Mexico, and Colombia

Various incidents involving press freedom and civil rights have been reported in Argentina, Mexico, and Colombia.

In Concordia, Argentina, the ATE union denounced police actions during a peaceful retirees' march. The union reported that police detained three individuals, including a photographer, under the guise of background checks, which the union characterized as an attempt to intimidate protesters exercising their constitutional rights.

In Guanajuato, Mexico, the Human Rights and Vulnerable Groups Commission is seeking information to protect press freedom. The commission aims to exhort Governor Libia Dennise García Muñoz Ledo to implement mechanisms to prevent and report intimidation of journalists by public officials.

In Pereira, Colombia, journalist Ángela Villegas was forced to leave the city following intimidation messages. The threats followed her public criticism of the government's management of the emergency response to an earthquake on August 10. Local authorities, including the Mayor and Governor, have requested protection for the journalist from the Prosecutor's Office.
