Press freedom and journalistic responsibility highlighted in Ghana and US

Discussions regarding the role and responsibility of the press have emerged in different contexts, emphasizing the importance of accuracy and independence in democratic societies.

In Ghana, UNESCO Representative Edmond Moukala spoke at the 77th Anniversary Symposium of the Ghana Journalists Association. Moukala stated that a free and independent press is a necessity for nation-building rather than a luxury of democracy. He noted that the media has historically supported Ghana's democratic stability by monitoring elections, exposing corruption, and providing a platform for public discourse.

In the United States, an official from the Adams County Board of Supervisors addressed the distinction between investigative journalism and inflammatory reporting. The official defended their position regarding air-conditioning issues at the Adams County Sheriff’s Office, arguing that responsible journalism should report facts and context rather than constructing narratives designed to provoke anger or manufacture outrage.
