Pressure film depicts critical D-Day weather decisions

The new thriller “Pressure,” directed by Anthony Maras, explores the critical meteorological decisions leading up to the D-Day invasion in June 1944. Based on a play by David Haig, the film focuses on the high-stakes tension faced by Allied commanders as they awaited weather forecasts to determine the success of Operation Overlord.

Central to the narrative is Chief Meteorologist James Martin Stagg, played by Andrew Scott, who must navigate professional rivalries and limited technology to provide an accurate forecast. While American meteorologist Irving P. Krick predicted calm weather for June 5, Stagg identified approaching low-pressure systems. The film depicts the dilemma faced by Supreme Allied Commander Dwight D. Eisenhower, portrayed by Brendan Fraser, as he decided whether to proceed with the invasion or delay it to avoid catastrophic conditions.
