Preston Lions sanctioned with points deduction and fines

Football Victoria has imposed significant sanctions on the Preston Lions following an incident during a match against South Melbourne on July 18. The club was penalized after supporters displayed offensive, anti-Greek banners at Lakeside Stadium.

The sanctions include a three-point deduction for the 2026 season, which was activated from a suspended penalty from 2025. Additionally, the club faces a suspended six-point deduction that will remain in place until the 2028 season, contingent on any further misconduct. Financial penalties totaling $18,150 were also issued.

Further disciplinary measures include restrictions on Preston Lions supporters attending away fixtures next season; attendance will be limited to registered club members who present photo identification. Football Victoria stated that such sanctions serve as a reminder that supporter actions have serious consequences for clubs, players, and the broader community.
