Prestone Tynsong accuses VPP of spreading misinformation

Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong has accused the Voice of the People Party (VPP) of using social media to spread misinformation and undermining traditional institutions. During election rallies for the upcoming Shillong Lok Sabha bypoll, Tynsong claimed that fabricated online narratives influenced previous election results and misled the electorate.

Tynsong specifically criticized the VPP’s management of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), questioning the party's development record and alleging that their actions aim to erode the authority of traditional bodies such as the Dorbar Shnong, Dorbar Raid, and Dorbar Hima. He also highlighted concerns regarding attempts to amend the Land Act, which was returned by the Governor.

The bypoll follows the death of sitting VPP MP Ricky Andrew Jones Syngkon in February 2026. The National People's Party (NPP) is campaigning for candidate Dr. D. R. L. Nonglait, asserting that an NPP victory would ensure more effective governance for the constituency.
