Preta Gil honored by actress Carolina Dieckmann on one-year anniversary of her death

Brazilian singer Preta Gil died on 20 July 2025 in New York while receiving an experimental treatment for intestinal cancer. A year later, actress Carolina Dieckmann posted a video tribute, saying the day of friendship had become a day of longing and sharing reflections on their decades‑long friendship.

In an August 2026 interview, Dieckmann recounted traveling to New York after her husband Tiago Worcman warned her of Preta’s worsening condition. She arrived to find Gil unconscious, describing her as “dead‑alive” after heavy medication. Dieckmann believed she could bring Gil back to Brazil, arranging a flight to São Paulo for treatment at Hospital Sírio‑Libanês, but Gil’s condition did not improve.
