Preußen Münster sporting director Jan Uphues outlines rebuilding plans
Jan Uphues has completed his first year as sporting director of Preußen Münster, a period marked by significant organizational changes and the club's relegation from the 2. Bundesliga. Since taking office on October 1, 2025, Uphues has overseen 19 player signings, including four youth academy graduates, and 16 departures.
The club has also experienced coaching transitions, moving from Alexander Ende to Alois Schwartz, who was brought in to attempt to prevent relegation, and finally to Thomas Wörle, who is tasked with the current rebuilding phase. Uphues stated that the immediate goal is to consolidate the team's position in the 3. Liga before pursuing higher objectives in subsequent years.
Uphues emphasized that strategic decisions are made collaboratively with sporting managing director Ole Kittner and technical director David Niehues. The long-term plan involves fostering a squad that blends experienced players with developing talent while simultaneously managing stadium renovations at the LVM-Stadion.
