Preventive health screenings for young adults in Czechia

Young adults transitioning to adult healthcare, typically around age 19, have access to a comprehensive initial preventive check-up. This one-time screening, covered by health insurance, includes blood and urine tests to evaluate kidney function, lipid profiles, blood sugar levels, liver function, and a complete blood count.

Petr Šonka, chairman of the Association of General Practitioners, emphasizes that early detection of risks such as obesity, metabolic disorders, or kidney issues allows for lifestyle interventions that can prevent or delay the onset of disease. Starting in January 2026, laboratory tests within these preventive screenings will become more detailed, including the addition of lipoprotein (a) to assess atherosclerosis risk.
