Preventive healthcare and medical check-up guidelines
Preventive healthcare and regular medical check-ups are essential tools for maintaining health across different life stages. Early detection of issues, such as breast lesions, significantly increases recovery probabilities and allows for less invasive treatments.
For breast cancer prevention, self-examination is recommended starting at age 20. This process involves visual inspection in a mirror to check for symmetry or skin changes, followed by palpation while lying down. The most effective time for this is between the 7th and 10th day of the menstrual cycle. However, self-examination should supplement, not replace, annual specialist visits and diagnostic imaging.
General medical check-ups also evolve with age. Between 20 and 40, screenings focus on establishing baseline values for blood counts, liver and kidney function, glucose, and lipid profiles. After age 40, the focus shifts toward cardiovascular and metabolic prevention, with increased monitoring of cholesterol, triglycerides, and blood sugar to manage asymptomatic risks.
