Preventive healthcare focus on knee health and mobility

Health experts are emphasizing the importance of preventive care regarding musculoskeletal health and mobility. Orthopedist Jaison Monge Benites warns that physical signs such as sudden pain, clicking sounds, or a “pincer leg” (perna de alicate) can indicate knee issues like cartilage, ligament, or meniscus damage. He notes that such deformities may be related to genu varum or osteoarthritis and stresses that early diagnosis can prevent the need for surgery.

In conjunction with the upcoming National Physiotherapist Day, discussions are shifting toward the role of physical activity in preventing cardiovascular diseases and strokes. Physiotherapist Thalyta Maia highlights that professional evaluation should occur even in the absence of pain, focusing on subtle changes in strength, balance, and daily movement. This is particularly critical in Brazil due to an aging population; data from IBGE indicates that a significant percentage of elderly citizens experience falls or limitations in performing daily activities like dressing or eating.
